About us

Making things possible in Flint.

Factory Two is a nonprofit community makerspace at 129 N. Grand Traverse St. in Flint, Michigan. We provide affordable access to professional tools, equipment, and workspace, along with the classes and community to help members use them.

Our mission

To equip Flint community members with the tools, skills, and collaborative space they need to build things and to build a better city.

Our story

Factory Two was founded with a simple idea: Flint, a city with deep manufacturing roots and a tradition of making things, deserved a space where that spirit could continue. A place where hobbyists, entrepreneurs, artists, and engineers could work side by side.

Since opening our doors, we've grown to support hundreds of members, hosted workshops and community events, and helped local makers launch products and businesses. Our shop includes woodworking, laser cutting, metalworking, 3D printing, electronics, textiles, and more.

We're a member-supported nonprofit. Every membership directly funds equipment maintenance, new tools, and programming that keeps the space accessible to everyone.

What we believe

Access over ownership

Professional tools and equipment should be available to anyone willing to learn how to use them safely. Not just those who can afford to own them.

Make things, learn things

Every project is a chance to build a skill. We create an environment where trying, failing, and trying again is the whole point.

Community-first

Factory Two exists because of the people in it. Members help each other, share knowledge freely, and take ownership of the space.

Rooted in Flint

We're proud to be part of Flint's creative and entrepreneurial ecosystem. When our members succeed, the city benefits.

Using the space

Before you can use any piece of equipment, you'll complete a safety checkout for that tool.

Each machine has its own checkout — pass the 3D printer checkout and you're cleared for the 3D printer, but the band saw requires its own. We make sure you have a solid understanding of every piece of equipment before you're authorized to use it. New here? Ask staff for a tour.

The team

Our staff and volunteer team keeps the shop running, teaches classes, and supports members every day. Bios coming soon.
