Heart of Worship Dance Studio Launches Community Fundraiser to Support Repair and Reopening

FLINT TOWNSHIP, MI — July 19, 2026 — Heart of Worship Dance Studio has established a GoFundMe to support its healing, repair and reopening efforts following a shooting near the Genesee Valley Center on Saturday afternoon.

The individual was shot in the parking lot and then ran into Heart of Worship Dance Studio to seek cover while those present awaited the arrival of law enforcement. Flint Township police officers responded to the studio and located him suffering from a gunshot wound. At the time, the studio had been rented for a private event. No one affiliated with the studio was involved or injured.

At the time of the incident, Heart of Worship Dance Studio’s space was being used for a private rental event. The studio has confirmed that no Heart of Worship students or staff members were present and that no one affiliated with the studio was involved or injured.

“Our hearts remain with everyone affected by this tragic incident,” said Porcha Clemons, Director of Heart of Worship Dance Studio. “We are incredibly grateful to the Flint Township Police Department and all of the first responders for their swift response. We have also been deeply moved by the prayers, love and concern our community has extended to us.”

As Heart of Worship begins the healing and repair process, its focus is on preparing the studio to once again welcome children and families into a safe, positive environment where they can experience joy, hope, creativity and community through dance.

In response to the many community members who have asked how they can help, the studio has created a GoFundMe to support its efforts to reopen.

“Many of you have asked how you can help and have expressed a desire to donate, so we created a GoFundMe,” Clemons said. “If you feel led to donate or simply share the fundraiser, we would be incredibly grateful. Every prayer, share and contribution brings us one step closer to reopening our doors for our dancers.”

“Thank you for standing with the Heart of Worship Dance Studio family, and thank you to everyone who immediately stepped in and began helping. Your support means more to us than we can express.”

Community members may donate to or share the Heart of Worship Dance Studio GoFundMe here.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to contact the Flint Township Police Department at 810-600-3250.
