FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – FLINT, Mich. — August 27, 2026 — Saint Mark Community Outreach Center recently took local children out of the city and onto the water for a special Kids Fishing Trip in Millington, creating a day filled with fishing, laughter, learning and new experiences.
With support from Meijer, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, and Fishing Tackle Grab Bag, participating youth had an opportunity to spend the day outdoors, learn about fishing, connect with caring adults and simply enjoy being kids.
The support from Meijer went beyond a financial contribution. Members of the Meijer team joined Saint Mark for the trip and volunteered alongside parents, community members and Saint Mark volunteers throughout the day, helping young people learn, fish and make memories.
“At Meijer, we believe strong communities are built by showing up for one another,” said Tracey Simon, Meijer Market Director of the Mid-Michigan Region. “We are proud to support Saint Mark Community Outreach Center and help create a meaningful experience where local youth could spend time outdoors, learn something new and make lasting memories alongside their families and neighbors.”
“For us, this is about so much more than catching fish,” said Carl Davis, President of Saint Mark Community Outreach Center. “It is about giving our young people opportunities to experience something new, spend time with positive adults and know that there is a whole community of people who care about them. We are incredibly thankful to Meijer for not only supporting this experience, but for showing up and spendhttps://www.facebook.com/meijering the day with our kids.”
The fishing trip reflects Saint Mark Community Outreach Center’s broader commitment to creating safe, positive and enriching opportunities for children and families in the Flint community. Experiences outside of a young person’s everyday environment can provide opportunities to build confidence, develop new interests and strengthen relationships with peers, parents and mentors.
Saint Mark extends its gratitude to every parent, volunteer and community partner who helped make the day possible, with special thanks to Meijer, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint and Fishing Tackle Grab Bag.
“Days like this remind us what community partnership is supposed to look like,” Davis added. “Organizations invest, volunteers show up, families participate, and our kids are the ones who benefit. We hope the memories they made on the water stay with them for a very long time.”
